It was a pretty tough day for the little guy, as you can see from his view, but it seems like he’s figured out the beach lifestyle…

Campbell had another fun day.  First, he got to meet his first Great Dane, Fancy.  Fancy was sweet to Campbell:

In typical Great Dane fashion, she wouldn’t stay still long enough to let Campbell really pose with her, but we tried anyway.

Later, Campbell got to meet Judge and Mrs. Cox.  Campbell is one of Judge Cox’s many “grandclerks” since Judge has been on the federal bench since 1981 (and is finally taking inactive status this fall).  Judge told us that Campbell would be “Camel” in grade school and Judge decided to start calling him that now.  So, here’s a picture of Judge, Mrs. Cox, Dad, and Camel:

Even though Campbell slept through basically the entire thing, we think he enjoyed his first croquet tournament this weekend.  And, he was definitely dressed appropriately in his croquet whites.  He was a little more well-rested than Mom & Dad, who had been playing all day.

He also got to meet his 98 year-old great-grandfather, and posed for a nice picture of four generations on that side:

He also got to meet his Aunt Allison:

And cousins Patrick…

And Stewart:

And Aubrey too, but we didn’t get a pic of her today.

Campbell attended his first croquet function today!  🙂  The Calcutta was at Gigi and Papa Doc’s house, and he got to meet a few croquet friends, including Cris Glick, our neonatologist friend, who has been so kind and helpful to us while Campbell was in the NICU.

Today was a busy day for Campbell.  He got to go to his first physical therapy appointment outside the NICU.  He did great!  We’re supposed to make sure he doesn’t always turn to the right side since he favors that one, but nothing to worry about at all.

Then, he visited the plastic surgeon.  He has a strawberry/capillary hemangioma on his head that showed up a few weeks after birth and has gotten even bigger since then.  These are a kind of birth mark, but it will hopefully go away after a few years.  We hope his will be covered up by his hair… at least for a little while until his hair line looks more like his dad’s.  :).  The one on the left is from when the hemangioma first appeared near the end of March.  The one to the right is from today.  You can see that it’s bigger and more raised now.

In other news, Campbell also went on his first road trip to Jackson!  We made it all the way from Memphis to Jackson without having to stop to feed him, which we thought was pretty good!  He slept most of the way, so it was pretty easy.

Here are a couple of pics of Campbell hanging out with Gigi and Papa Doc.

Then, Campbell got to meet his Aunt Brannon for the first time.  DSCF1217

Today is a big day!  It’s Campbell’s official due date birthday!  Kind of hard to believe that he’s already been here for almost 13 weeks and that he’s been home for 3 1/2 weeks already!

To celebrate, we took lunch to the day and night shift doctors, nurses, and staff at the NICU.  The highlight, of course, was that Campbell got to see (and snuggle with) some old friends – thankfully this time as a visitor and not as a patient.  🙂  You can see him here with Tammi and Christina, who were so excited to see him, along with many other nurses and doctors.

In other news, Campbell also went to the eye doctor again, and he’s been cleared!  Apparently, his eyes are fully vascularized and normal, so that’s excellent news!  We don’t have to see the retina specialist anymore.  We just need to follow up with a pediatric opthalmologist in six months for checkups.  We’re really excited about this not only because it means Campbell’s eyes are doing great but because every time we’ve been, we have had to wait at the doctor’s office for 2 1/2 hours before being seen.  (Absurd in any event, but particularly with a newborn and particularly when you’re the first appointment at 7 am).

Today, since Campbell’s diet consists of milk and vitamins, we thought it would be perfect to introduce him to one of Memphis’ great traditions: BBQ.  Despite our best effort to tell him how good it was, though, he just felt like sleeping at the Memphis in May BBQ Fest.

Well, the little guy is not nearly as little as he used to be.  In fact, he’s pretty fat. :).  He’s gained a full pound in the 12 days since our last visit to the pediatrician!  We went back to the pediatrician today; he weighs 6 pounds, 8 ounces and is 20 inches long.  So, basically, in three months, he’s more tripled his birth weight of 2 pounds, 2 1/2 ounces.  Let’s hope that doesn’t keep happening his entire life….  But we’re hoping he gets the height genes from Mason’s side of the family.  🙂 He’s grown 5 1/2 inches taller since he was born, so we hope that’s a good sign.  And he got a good report on all other fronts, as well.

He’s big enough to be full-term baby now!2015-05-12 19.37.32

Unfortunately, the monitor malfunctioned again overnight, so Campbell is much more rested than mom and dad are!  Apparently, the power cord is also defective, so it didn’t charge.  The battery ran out at 12:30, and started alarming every 1-2 minutes again.  Thankfully, they sent someone to replace it in the middle of the night, but we’re definitely looking forward to the day when we don’t need this stupid monitor anymore!

For those who are interested, this is what Campbell’s apnea monitor looks like.  This is relevant because it malfunctioned overnight.  Thankfully, not anything to do with Campbell, but it didn’t help mom and dad or Campbell get any rest. Apparently, the battery has gone bad, so it wouldn’t charge.  As a result, it went off every 1-2 minutes for 2 hours this morning before finally going off continuously for 30 minutes.  If you’ve never heard one of these things go off, it’s ear-piercingly loud.  (So loud that we thought we might need to take a bottle of wine and an apology note to all of our closest neighbors).  Hopefully, the new monitor will work better!

Today was our first Mother’s Day with Campbell!  🙂  He went out all on his own and got me a spa treatment.  I think he’s destined to make a great husband for someone one day.  He knows just what girls like!  🙂

You can also see how big he’s getting here:

He’s eating all the time, and I think he’s going to be well over 6 pounds when we go to the pediatrician next week.

Here’s a cute one of him getting a bath:

Today we took Campbell for his first post-NICU visit to the eye doctor.  He got a great report.  His right eye looks great – we’ve progress to Zone 3, Stage 0.  His left is still Zone 2, Stage 0, so they want to check him again in 2-3 weeks to be sure everything is progressing.  I’m not looking forward to this visit.  Aside from having to wait over two hours to see the doctor, I had to hold him still while they inserted a speculum in his eye.  He screamed and it was awful.  He was fine immediately afterwards, but you hate watching it.

No pictures, but I don’t think anyone would have wanted to see it anyway!

May 2, 2015

Today, Campbell got to watch his first Kentucky Derby.  The closest outfit we could find for the occasion was a little sleeper with giraffes, but that’s close enough, right?

We also gave him his first proper bath by ourselves.  He survived, though how much cleaner he is is debatable.  🙂

And, went for a stroll (not that Campbell noticed).  🙂

And here’s a cute one of his feet, which are bigger than you’d think for a little guy his size.
