Campbell is learning how to sit up on his own – okay – well, just a little. But still, it’s progress.

Today was another exciting day. Campbell spent his first day with his new nanny, Marie! He did great! Although Marie will usually come to our house, today we took Campbell to Marie’s house this morning because we were heading out east anyway. He spent the day with Marie, and they had a great time reading books, listening to classical music, and playing with toys. He didn’t seem upset when we left, and when we got back he was happy to see us, but not overly so. :). So, I think it went great. We are so excited about Marie!
She even sent us a cute picture of him napping with her today.

Last night Campbell also slept without the monitor. He did great! No problems, but I’m sure it will get easier for mom and dad as we get used to it. I think the monitor has really been for us more than him the past few weeks.
And, today Campbell enjoyed (at least momentarily) some tummy time.
And, he’s also really improving his head control. Here’s a pic of him enjoying some time in the Bumbo seat.

Lots of news! First, we think Campbell is teething. He’s been drooling all the time and chomping on everything he can get his hands on. So we stuck our hands in his mouth to feel, and sure enough, we can feel something under his gums. It hopefully explains why he’s been super fussy and why he wasn’t sleeping very well over the weekend. Thankfully, he slept better last night.
And, speaking of sleep – that brings me to the next and more important news. When we went to the doctor last week, he told us that we could discontinue using his apnea monitor at night. So last night was the first time Campbell slept without his monitor. He did great. It helped that when I checked him on the monitor in the middle of the night, he had rotated himself a full 90 degrees, and by first thing in the morning, he had rotated a full 180 degrees.
He’s also really getting better at putting his hands together in the middle – clapping is one of his new tricks, and we are working on teaching him to “touchdown” given the impending arrival of football season. That one still needs a little more work, but we are making progress. 🙂
And, here’s a picture of one of his other tricks – you can see the mid-line hand control here where he’s really holding his own bottle!
Finally, we had some other excitement this afternoon. We all went out to the golf course after I finished work, and we managed to play all 18 holes. Campbell was happy and stayed in his carrier for about the first 6 holes. Then, he started crying on 6 and 7 a little, but he had fallen asleep again by the time we teed off on #8. He slept for 4 holes, and then he stayed awake but didn’t fall apart until the end of #18. We had to pass him back and forth some, but it really went pretty well all things considered. We were really impressed. And here are some cute pictures from today’s adventure:

Here’s a (slightly blurry) picture of Campbell working on his tummy time. Usually he screams, so this is progress!
Also, Campbell got to hang out with Papa Doc in his bib with glasses on it this morning before they left to go back to Jackson. We got this really cute picture:
Finally, we took Campbell for a stroll in his new “big boy” stroller. We tried yesterday, but dad didn’t know how to put the wheels on correctly, so the first trip out didn’t quite go as planned. So technically, this is the second trip out on the big stroller. But still, he really liked it! (Thanks Aunts Allison, Brannon & Julie)! He even stopped screaming (which is why we took him out in the first place)! I’d call that a success! And, we can’t wait for him to keep growing into it. Here’s one of Dad with Campbell in the stroller.
This afternoon, Campbell plans to watch Tiger play his way into the FedEx Cup.

Today, Campbell had his six month checkup at the pediatrician. Dr. Frizzell said he was a “big, strong, healthy” little guy. We aren’t concerned about anything. He was over 14 1/2 pounds, but they weighed him with his diaper and clothes on, so that’s probably something of an overestimate. They said he was 22 inches, which is two inches shorter than they said at the physical therapist’s office. So one of those measurements must be wrong. Either way, according to the doctor’s office, Campbell has now officially made it onto the weight chart for a six month old. In fact, he’s in the 5th percentile in weight for babies who are six months old. And, if you look at the corrected age chart (for a 3 month old), he’s about average – in the 50th percentile. Unfortunately for dad, he’s still not quite on the height chart yet for a six month old according to the doctor’s measurements. I think dad is probably blaming me for that one… 🙂
Campbell also got his six month vaccinations, which he didn’t much enjoy. Here’s one of him crying as she gave him one of the three shots, and you can also see the cute bugs bunny bandaids that we hoped made it a little less insulting.
And, we took him out to Porcellino’s afterwards to help him celebrate getting his shots over with.

Today is Campbell’s six month birthday! 🙂 Unfortunately, we didn’t get any cute pictures, but it doesn’t mean we weren’t excited. It’s hard to believe this little guy has been here for six months already – and three months longer than we expected him to be.
Hard to believe how little he was at the beginning when you see how big he is now. This preemie outfit is way to big for him here – even though this was taken on May 10 – two weeks after we brought him home and over a week before his due date!

Today, Campbell went out on the golf course for the first time. He rode in the cart while mom and dad played 8 1/2 holes. He fell apart after we teed off on #8, but to be fair we would easily have finished the front nine if the people in front of us hadn’t been so darn slow. But, he did really well – well enough that I think we’ll be trying this again soon. Thankfully, the course allows people to bring dogs, so we thought babies couldn’t be that much different, right? 🙂 .
Here’s a pic of Campbell riding in the golf cart.
And here’s one hanging out with dad overlooking the course.
And, here’s one of him lounging and looking proud of himself after golf in his cute polo romper. 🙂
Finally, here’s one of him hanging out in his moses basket this afternoon while mom and dad watch the final round of the PGA Championship.
Quite a bit bigger than his first time in the moses basket, pictured below.

Campbell is excited that law school orientation is almost over! Yay! He’s celebrating by snuggling with his cute frog lovie.
And, here’s a shot of what is probably his last bath in the sink in his bathroom. He’s just gotten too big for it, as you can see below!
For comparison, this is what it looked like the first time we gave him a bath at home. He’s getting so big!

Today was a big day! Campbell went for his second visit to the physical therapist, and he got a great report!
He’s over 13 1/2 pounds and almost 24 inches long. That’s up from 2 pounds, 2 1/2 ounces and 14 inches long when he was born. His head circumference was also 40 centimeters. He’s really doing well with all his milestones too. Last time she told us he had a preference for turning his head to the right side instead of the left. That’s almost completely resolved. We’ve noticed, though, that he seems to prefer his left hand now for picking up things, but only slightly. We’re supposed to watch it, but it’s nothing to be concerned about at this point. All in all, it was a great report and she said he was doing “fabulous!”
Here’s a picture of him at physical therapy showing off what he can do:
And, later, after we went to physical therapy, we made our first trip to the new Bass Pro Shop at the Pyramid in Memphis. It is pretty crazy. But the best part is that there’s a new bowling alley right by our house. Campbell got to go bowling for the first time. Okay, well, mostly he slept, which we couldn’t believe!

Then he asked if he could “be” the ball. 🙂
