Today, Campbell got to have his first “real” birthday party and got to open a few gifts early.

Later, the birthday party was super fun.  I’ve never seen him as amazed and happy as he was when everyone was signing happy birthday to him.  Dad was taking pictures, not video, which is too bad, but you can still see how amazed he is in the picture.

And, Gigi made these amazing car cakes, which he loved!  🙂

It was really a super fun day.  🙂

Yesterday, Mimi took Campbell to school for his Valentine’s party.  She stayed for a while with him, and had some really funny things to report.  First, they were asked how they were doing at circle time, and Campbell jumped up first and said “I’m so happy!.”  🙂  Then, as the teacher was passing out valentines from his classmates, he sneaked some from the stack into his bag.  The teacher “caught” him, and when she asked, he apparently sheepishly admitted it.  It was super fun, and I was so glad he got to go.

Then, today, Campbell and mom went to get a much-needed haircut.  :).  He loves Terry, and he’s really good!

Later, when dad got home Campbell got to open some Valentine’s gifts.

He loved all his new tractors and fun cars!  🙂  And, I love this picture of Campbell and dad.  🙂

Today, Campbell got to open an early birthday present from Pat-Pat & Bing & from Aunt Lizzy.  Campbell loved his fireman boots and dress-up costume – complete with megaphone and hose and hat.  :).

Later, Campbell played upstairs while mom and dad got dressed to go out for an early Valentine’s dinner.  Campbell wanted to get dressed up too, and loves to wear ties.  🙂

Heather and Campbell had fun at bath time (with much-too-long hair) while mom and dad were at dinner.  🙂

Campbell loved watching the Olympics tonight.  Especially figure skating.  Unfortunately, all of his “ice skating” tonight was naked…  We will try again later to get some pictures in clothes.  🙂

Today, mom came home early to meet the babysitter, so Campbell and I went out shopping.  We went to Home Depot to return something and then went to Kroger and Target, as well.  We were trying to find fun valentine things to put in a snack for school.  Here’s a shot of C at Home Depot – he loves to play in the kitchens.  Really, he loves everything about Home Depot.

Campbell and mom got to watch the super bowl by ourselves while dad flew back to Virginia.  It was a great game, and Campbell loved cheering for the Eagles.  🙂

Campbell had fun with Gigi and Papa Doc today and even ran into Pat-Pat and Bing at Vineyard Vines at a “whale of a sale” (as he keeps repeating).

Later, he got to go to Paulette’s for a fun dinner.  Gigi and Papa Doc reported that he was great and stayed in his chair without complaint.  Mom and dad don’t believe it…  🙂

Okay, so Mimi and Graham both got the crud from Campbell, and they’ve been out all week.  Thankfully, he started to feel much better by Sunday evening.  So, I took Campbell to school today (Wednesday), and we went to the zoo after school since it was a really nice day out.

The giraffe was really posing in the background for us, and I got Campbell to be still for just a split second to get this shot.

Then, we went for the drums.  This is Campbell “sharing.”

Campbell didn’t get to see dad today for his big (40) birthday, but we did order a surprise cake for him.  And, we tried really, really hard to get a happy birthday video.  (The progression of takes is really pretty funny, but I’ll just post the last one here).  They included “happy birthday, frog.  i hope you are sad.”  And, “happy birthday potty.”

But, on the up side, I did teach the birthday song to Campbell, and he picked it right up.  🙂

January 27, 2018

Well, Campbell spiked a really high fever last night.  I knew he’d had a low grade fever, but I had no idea how high it was (103.6) until I took his temperature right before we went to bed.  So we took a lukewarm bath and got some motrin to try to get the temperature down.  We got down to 101.9 by the time we went to bed.  But when I peeked in at the monitor at 2, he was awake again.  So I went in there to check on him and take his temp, and it was back up to 103.6.  So we tried some cold wash rags.  What really scared me is that he said he was having a hard time breathing, but it didn’t look like he was in distress at all.  So I called and talked to the night call service (they have nurses on duty 24/7 for questions, which is great).  And, we talked through it, and they said to bring him in first thing this morning.

So, we went to the doctor.  They ruled out the flu and said it was just a virus and to just watch his fever and breathing.  There were a couple of funny things, though.  So, we saw a different doctor at the walk-in hours than who we usually see.  She saw Campbell for about 3 minutes before saying “he’s got a great vocabulary… and, he’s really bossy.”  :).  She’s not wrong.  And, when the nurse went to swab inside his nose for the flu test, he said after she was finished “that looks like a q-tip.”  Not much gets past him.  🙂

Anyway, we got some pictures before the doctor came in.  Campbell loved looking out at the pond with the ducks – which is where the NICU reunion always is, and he remembered riding “thomas” there.

So, for the rest of the day, poor guy was exhausted and we were fighting fever.  But he seems to be doing okay.

We got a cute birthday video for Pat-Pat.

And, more naked, booty-shaking, unpostable videos of Campbell.  🙂

The new twist tonight is that he started voice texting his “watch” on his wrist.  He would raise up his wrist and talk to it and say, “hey comma (pronouncing comma), I’m shaking my booty.”  Hysterical.  Ask us to show you in person.
