Well, Campbell spiked a really high fever last night. I knew he’d had a low grade fever, but I had no idea how high it was (103.6) until I took his temperature right before we went to bed. So we took a lukewarm bath and got some motrin to try to get the temperature down. We got down to 101.9 by the time we went to bed. But when I peeked in at the monitor at 2, he was awake again. So I went in there to check on him and take his temp, and it was back up to 103.6. So we tried some cold wash rags. What really scared me is that he said he was having a hard time breathing, but it didn’t look like he was in distress at all. So I called and talked to the night call service (they have nurses on duty 24/7 for questions, which is great). And, we talked through it, and they said to bring him in first thing this morning.
So, we went to the doctor. They ruled out the flu and said it was just a virus and to just watch his fever and breathing. There were a couple of funny things, though. So, we saw a different doctor at the walk-in hours than who we usually see. She saw Campbell for about 3 minutes before saying “he’s got a great vocabulary… and, he’s really bossy.” :). She’s not wrong. And, when the nurse went to swab inside his nose for the flu test, he said after she was finished “that looks like a q-tip.” Not much gets past him. 🙂
Anyway, we got some pictures before the doctor came in. Campbell loved looking out at the pond with the ducks – which is where the NICU reunion always is, and he remembered riding “thomas” there.
So, for the rest of the day, poor guy was exhausted and we were fighting fever. But he seems to be doing okay.
