Today, Campbell got to ride the train back and forth to Greenwood to go to Pop’s 99th birthday party.  (Tomorrow is the actual birthday, but today was the party).

Here’s a cute shot of mom and Campbell on the train:

Unfortunately, it was too exciting and he didn’t sleep at all on the way down.

Lala got some cute pictures at the party, but I don’t have those yet to post.  I will update when I get them.  We did get a pic of Pop & Campbell (even though it’s a little blurry).

February 26, 2016

Today, Campbell went for his 1-year checkup with the pediatrician (Dr. Frizzell).  He got a great report.  Dr. Frizzell was even amazed at how well he’s done given how small he was when he got here!

So here are our new stats:

  • Height – 28 inches (about the 5th percentile uncorrected)
  • Weight – 20 pounds, 11 ounces (about the 38th percentile uncorrected)
  • Head circumference – 45 inches (not sure about the percentile)

He didn’t even give us the uncorrected numbers this time, so I think that’s progress too.

Unfortunately, Campbell also had to get two shots.  But he didn’t stay mad for too long. He was a little fussy and seemed like he didn’t feel great after, though, so we put him to bed early and let him rest.

Here’s an action shot:

And the aftermath.

February 23, 2016

Campbell still doesn’t seem to be feeling well.  He didn’t want much breakfast or lunch (even his usual favorites – strawberries or avocado).  In fact, the only thing he really seems to want are whole black beans and puffs, but he’s at least eating something.  And, we tried something else new – thin mint girl scout cookies!  He had just a couple of small tastes, but he liked them.  🙂

But, in other good news, Campbell took a 2 hour morning nap in his crib (4 days in a row – yay) and, even more exciting – a long afternoon nap, as well!  I think he’s exhausted from teething, which made it easier, but hopefully the new sound soother and routine are helping.

Also, today Campbell waved goodbye before I left for work!  Marie said he waved at Izabela yesterday when she left, as well, so that’s his new thing.  It’s awesome.  And, tonight when we were taking a bath, I swear he looked at one of his bath books and asked for it (‘buh’).  I think we’re getting closer to real communication.  Yay.

And, here is a cute shot from dinner tonight.

February 22, 2016

Today was day 3 of Campbell taking a morning nap in his crib!  Yay!  Marie was able to get him to take a longish nap in the morning, even though today was Izabela’s day to clean.  Let’s hope 3 days forms a new habit!

And, Marie totally thinks that Campbell is saying da-da!

Also, poor guy hasn’t been feeling well the past couple of days – he’s not eating much and tired a lot (good for nap retraining, at least).  We think he might be teething – he looks like he might have a new bottom tooth coming in.

And, Marie brought Campbell a birthday gift today – a large board version of Good Night Moon!  My favorite!  :).  Here are some shots of Campbell reading his new book before he went to bed tonight.  Thanks, Marie!  🙂

February 21, 2016

We don’t have any pictures today, but we can report that Campbell took a 2-hour morning nap in his crib!  This was the second day in a row.  Yay!  Let’s hope this is a pattern!

And, I’m convinced that Campbell is saying “da-da.”  Campbell especially likes to say it when playing with the “Dada” book.  Mason says that is absurd – and that I’m suggesting that Campbell can both read and speak!  :).

And, dad also told me today (why he is just showing me this is beyond me!) that Campbell has been high five-ing him.  Surely, that’s blog worthy!?

February 20, 2016

On Thursday, Campbell received a box with some fun UVA gear from Tom Jamerson, one my law school friends.  Here’s Campbell today showing off some of his new colors.  Please note the orange and blue are UVA – not Auburn. :).

And, we finally got some shots of Campbell doing “superman.”  It’s so cute – dad holds him up by his hips, and he’s so strong that he can hold his whole body rigid like he’s flying.  We turned around his bib backwards so it’s like a superhero cape!  :).

Also, we tried something new today.  C has resisted taking naps in his crib and has only wanted to sleep in his podster (which he’s outgrown) or later in the swing.  He sleeps great in his crib at night – just not during the day.  We’re determined to get him napping in his crib, so mom hatched a new plan that we started today.  First, my sisters got him a cool aquarium soother for his birthday to look at and play with in his crib (just during the day – we take it off at night since he doesn’t need it).  Then, I got him really, really tired.  Then, I rocked him until he was drowsy and gave him a bottle and turned on the music from the swing so that he’d hear what he’s used to when he goes to sleep.  Then, I turned on the soother and put him in the crib.  He looked at it and played around for a few minutes and kicked around on the crib, but he was asleep within 5 minutes and slept for almost 2 hours!  Yay!  Let’s hope it works again tomorrow for the morning nap.

Here’s the before and after screenshots in his crib.  🙂

Feb 19 before.jpgFeb 19.jpgAnd, Campbell is doing a lot more talking.  Sounds like he’s maybe starting to say da-da, but it isn’t clear if he really knows what it means yet.

Oh, and Campbell also got to see the Roomba cleaning his play yard, and he was completely fascinated.  He spent a solid 10-15 minutes actively watching it go around and clean and craning his neck as it went into the corners.  It was really cute.  I think we have a new babysitter.  🙂

And, Campbell has really outgrown his bathtub.  So, today on his birthday, he also got to graduate to his bath ring.  He loves it, as you can see here:

February 19, 2016

Today we took a few flashback/comparison photos to start out C’s birthday.  Hard to believe where we started and where we’ve ended up – from 2 pounds, 2 1/2 ounces to nearly 21 pounds.  And twice is birth length of 14 1/2 inches.  Sure makes the car seat, the podster, and the moses basket seem small!

Next, we let C open a present before breakfast.

2016-02-19 08.18.28.jpg

Then, we had a birthday breakfast, and he was in such a good mood!  🙂

2016-02-19 08.30.02.jpg2016-02-19 08.30.10.jpg2016-02-19 08.32.082016-02-19 08.30.14

Then, Campbell got to open another present before mom had to go to work.

Later, we put Campbell in his walker, and he maneuvered around to find his other presents and start opening them on his own.  🙂

Then, we celebrated with birthday cake – including a smash cake for Campbell with Pat Pat and Bing.  And Gigi and Papa Doc got to Face Time with Campbell to say Happy Birthday!

Unfortunately, we all thought the cake was much better than Campbell did.  He absolutely hated it!  But we got some cute pictures anyway.

This was as excited as he ever got, and it was really more about the balloons than the cake!2016-02-19 17.12.47.jpg

This about sums up how he felt about the cake!

2016-02-19 17.12.35.jpg2016-02-19 17.11.47.jpg

After cake, Campbell got to open a couple more presents.  He liked it but seemed much more interested in the paper.  But, he’s getting better at figuring out how to get the paper off and eat it!

Then, after gifts, we tried again for family photos and cake.

2016-02-19 17.35.03.jpg2016-02-19 17.36.13.jpg

He actually got mad and cried and resisted when I tried to give him a spoonful of cake!

2016-02-19 17.37.11-1.jpg

So we staged some later pictures since we forgot his hat the first time!

Then, after cake we went to the NICU and saw some old friends and took a birthday cake for them to enjoy.  It was so great to see the nurses.  Unfortunately, we only got pictures with one nurse – Christina – not that we don’t already have enough pictures from today).

All in all, it was a great first birthday – even though he hates cake!  🙂

February 18, 2016

Today, the weather was nice enough that Campbell was able to take his office outside and play with dad on the new porch.  Hope this is the beginning of many fun times out there.  🙂

And, later, Campbell got to go to the park for the first time and play on the swing set and the slide.  He loved the swing, but not the slide as much.  🙂

February 15, 2016

Today, Campbell worked on crawling.  We didn’t quite get there going forwards, but he seems to be crawling backwards pretty well.  Here, you can see how he kept ending up farther and farther under the couch as he was playing with his toys.  It was pretty darn cute.  :).

Valentine’s Day

Campbell had a great first Valentine’s day.  He got to open some packages from mom and dad and from his grandparents, and then he got model his new clothes and to play with his new toys!

And, Campbell got to see his new portrait hanging in the foyer.  🙂

And, he got to try on his new coat that’s really for next year:

And, he got to try some new foods today.  We went out to breakfast with some friends who were visiting, and Campbell reiterated that he doesn’t like eggs, but we also discovered that he hates bacon!  (Can you believe it?).  And, he ate some black beans as a finger food, so we are progressing beyond the puffs.  And, finally, he tried strawberries for the first time, and they are his new favorite food!  He won’t stop eating them and he gets really excited when he sees that you are going to give him strawberries!

2016-02-14 18.55.34.jpg

Finally, Campbell spent some time playing with his new blocks and puzzle.  With the blocks, he loves to try to pull them apart as hard as he can with his fingers.  And, he’s really enjoying playing with his lawnmower these days.  (Let’s hope he still likes that when he’s about 14!).

2016-02-14 19.37.57.jpg

He’s also really close to crawling.  I think he’s lost the “reflex” that the physical therapist mentioned.  He’s getting up on all fours and rocking, and he almost sat himself up for the first time tonight on his own.  But he turned over before he got there.  So, all in all it was a great day for C!

February 12, 2016

Here are some shots today at physical therapy.  Amy said Campbell was doing great with his motor skills.  He’s almost, almost crawling, but not quite.  So, he’s on track with his adjusted milestones (using 8 months and 24 days).  She did say that when micro preemies like this do so well in one area (motor development), they often have delays in another area.  There’s nothing yet that she’s seeing to make her worry, but she said not to be surprised if he had some verbal delays and might need some additional therapy.  But, we are released to the next 3 month appointment in May.  Yay.

We also got a height and weight.  20 pounds, 9 ounces.  And 28 inches.  (Although I think the 28 inches is low – I think he was there a month or two ago, so I’m not sure how accurate that is).

As far as where that puts him on the growth chart:

Corrected:

  • Weight:  69.0%
  • Height:   39.1%

Actual:

  • Weight: 40.6%
  • Height:   3.6%

February 11, 2016

Dad got some cute pictures of Campbell today.  First playing in his “office” this morning:

2016-02-11 08.36.03.jpg

Then in his old moses basket:2016-02-11 09.09.16.jpg

Hard to believe how far we’ve come!

C three pics

And, playing in his play yard:2016-02-11 11.00.54.jpg

He’s a little bigger than an ipad mini now.  2016-02-11 20.04.262016-02-11 20.06.18

And, he loves bath time – especially when you pour water on him!  🙂  (We tried to pick the “modest” pictures. :).

February 9, 2016

Well, today was a little unusual.  Marie and Avery were sick, so mom got to stay home with Campbell!  We had a great day together playing and going for a walk.

First, Campbell got to hang out with Jeeves, who came to visit, purred, and even let Campbell pet him.

2016-02-09 08.04.15.jpg

Next, Brigitte got to come and visit with Campbell while mom went to a work meeting. Here is a fun selfie of Brigitte and Campbell:

Campbell was even asleep in the swing when I got home:

20160209_103148.jpg

Later we played in the play yard.  He loves his family picture book:

2016-02-09 11.17.15.jpg

And then we worked on crawling (still not quite there) and played with the animal noise book, which C loves because he can now press the buttons to hear the animal sounds.

Then, we went for a walk.  It was super cold, but we dressed warmly and tried to stay in the sunshine.

February 6, 2016

Today, we didn’t get any pictures, but Campbell got to visit with Pat Pat and Bing at their house while mom and dad went to the Vandy/Ole Miss basketball game.  We got to see the new arena, which was super nice.  And, Pat Pat & Bing got to give a bath and get him dressed in his PJs so we could drive home late and put him directly to bed.  He did great!  He didn’t get up any later, but he slept through the night, so we think it was a success!

Campbell also got to meet his new cousin Lillian Louise “LiLou” Tindall.  She’s four months old.  Unfortunately, we didn’t get any pictures.  Mostly because Campbell was a little freaked out by another baby crying.  :).  We think he might have post-traumatic stress disorder from his time in the NICU, which we think was the last time he heard another baby crying.
