Today was Harry Potter Day at one of our favorite bakerys, 17 Berkshire. They had all sorts of fun Harry Potter-themed treats, so we went to check them out.
Campbell settled on Polyjuice Potion, and Bert’s Every Flavor Macarons (and they mean every flavor – some were garlic and hot sauce flavored!).
Later in the afternoon, Campbell fell asleep in the car! :).
Also, Campbell has been helping me pick out clothes and jewelry before work. 🙂
And, Campbell and dad had fun with the invisibility cloak while mom was at work!
Last night, dad and I watched some TV after we put Campbell down and before heading upstairs to bed ourselves. We found Campbell asleep on the landing at the top of the stairs. Neither of us heard him come out of his room, and he never came downstairs to get us. I’m not sure if he called for us and fell back asleep waiting for us to come or whether he sleepwalked out there. But it was so strange!

Today, we had fun playing Sherlock Gnomes and swimming. Dad and Campbell are so cute playing detective!
Tonight, mom’s oldest friend and her family came to Gigi and Papa Doc’s house. Rosemary and Lucy and Campbell had so much fun playing “band” with Campbell. :). I think Campbell is on his way to being the next Mick Jagger. :).
Kim gave Campbell some sidewalk chalk, and he wanted to use it to help make an ice cream shop in Gigi’s car. He’s so fun and creative, and we had such a great time. The flavors he makes up are so crazy and fun.
Yesterday, we came to Jackson to have a staycation while Gigi and Papa Doc are in Alaska. We stopped in Oxford yesterday to visit with Pat-Pat and Bing on the way down here, which Campbell was so excited about too!
Today, we decided to bake cookies and paint them. Campbell had so much fun. Gigi said to use newspaper when I showed her the pictures (and that it had food coloring in it… :)). It’s been disappointingly rainy so we are figuring out fun things to do. Thankfully, Papa Doc ordered a new set of books that came today. A-Z Mysteries. Campbell is obsessed! New favorite books!
Dad had to go to Connecticut for his friend Alistair’s funeral, so Campbell and I got to hang out together. I ended up having to go into the office to help with something, and Campbell was so excited to get to come with me. We have a student in the fall who will be using a wheelchair, so we are having to make sure that we have everything in place so that he has access. Campbell got to help us figure all that out. He loved it and was so helpful!
Today, we went to the park to play with some friends in the evening. This is what I found that Campbell had packed to take with us to play…. Look closely…. Good thing I found it before he started playing with it with the other kids.
Today, we went to Ghost River brewery with Campbell. Mason and I used to go here sometimes when Bing would babysit. They often have a food truck. Also, they used to have indoor games. All those are gone due to COVID, but they had lots of outdoor games, and Campbell had a blast outside. (Also, we basically had the place to ourselves).
Today we fly home from Vail. Campbell had so much fun running around the airport before our flight. We stayed outside as long as possible to have to wear masks no longer than needed, which was especially helpful since our flight was delayed by about an hour. Thankfully, they were able to get us on a later (but not too late) connection to Memphis. We did manage to find the airport fire station and look in the windows to see the crash tenders. Pretty cool! Awesome trip overall!
We went on another walk this morning on a different trail at Beaver Creek and stopped to mine gems and play in the food truck. Afterwards, we went ate lunch and then went to take Gigi and Papa Doc to the airport for their flight back.
Afterwards, we went into Vail village to go shopping, to get ice cream at Sundae (the most amazing ice cream!), and we found a cute K-9 rescue hat for Campbell. 🙂
It’s been a great trip, and we’re so sad to leave tomorrow!
Today, we went White Water Rafting with Campbell and Gigi and Papa Doc and Glenwood Adventure Company (The Shoshone Rapids). We had our own boat, which was really fun, and a great guide named Nate who is also a student at Colorado State (along with Stewart). We almost didn’t go becuase there have been really bad mudslides between Beaver Creek and Glenwood, which is where the trip begins. They have blocked I-70 several times (including 2 days ago), and the detour is an extra three hours onto the trip. The mudslides are the result of heavy rains after wildfires burrned the area last year. In the end, we decided to go because the weather has been warm and dry, and is not expected to storm. We are so glad we did! The first 30 minutes of the trip was most of the big rapids, and Campbell had so much fun!
Later, he played “rodeo” (see video below), which was one of the highlights of the trip! And, Nate let him sit on the front of the raft like some of the other bigger kids until he fell off and we had a close call with some rocks in the river. Thankfully, Campbell was wearing a life jacket, and Nate is an awesome guide! (He was the lead guide for our group of boats). A definite trip highlight!

Later, we stopped off at Glenwood Caverns to see the two famous caves. They were very cool. Campbell was too small to ride the rides, which might have been a good thing since the place apparently has a spotty safety record…
