March 27, 2016 (Easter)

Today was Campbell’s second Easter!  Unfortunately, he slept really late and had a touch of fever this morning, so we didn’t get to go to church.  But we did get some cute pictures of him with his Easter basket (which was from when I was a kid).

Also, here’s one of Campbell calling out da-da after his nap and waiting to be gotten up.  🙂

Today, Campbell got to see the Easter Bunny for the second time – this time at Spring Creek Ranch instead of at the NICU.

He’s a little bigger than when they met the first time.  🙂  Back then, he was only 3 pounds, 9 ounces.

Unfortunately, he didn’t really enjoy himself much.  We think he hated the feel of the grass and cried more than he played with the Easter eggs.  🙂

March 23, 2016

Today, Campbell had fun strolling and figured out how to sit up on his own.  He’s been standing up from the floor for a little while but hadn’t quite put together that sitting up on his own thing.  But he’s definitely got it down now.

March 18, 2016

Today, Campbell had a developmental evaluation by TEIS (Tennessee Early Intervention System).  This is a free service to qualifying babies, and as a 27-weeker, he qualifies automatically.  We aren’t worried about anything in particular, but we want to make sure that we take advantage of any available free services and that everything is on track.

We got a great report.  Campbell has a 25% delay in motor skills (fine and gross), but that puts him right on track for his corrected age (10 months instead of 13 months).  And, on all the other categories, he was in the normal range for  his actual age (13 months) and not even his corrected age.  We’ll see in a couple of weeks what services they recommend and that we can take advantage of, but  all-in-all it was a great report.

March 17, 2016

We don’t have any action shots, but today Campbell started “cruising” around the furniture in the living room.  Out came the boxes and away went all the fragile items!  🙂

March 15, 2016

Today, mom got to work from home (as much as she could) because Marie’s son is still sick.  Poor guy – I know they are all ready to be rid of the spring break flu they were all sick with last week!

On the plus side, that meant more time with Campbell for mom.  And, that mom got to lower his crib.  I was getting worried about him climbing out once I realized he could not only stand up from a sitting position (he still can’t get himself into a sitting position yet, so I thought we were safe) but also from lying down.  So safer to lower it and use a stool to help get him in and out.  (How weird is it, by the way, that he can’t sit up from a laying down position, but that he can stand up)!

He’s getting really good at this standing up thing.  He wants to practice all the time climbing up me.  And, apparently the walls of the play yard, as you can see here.  (I didn’t leave him standing there!).  He was ready for me to come and pick him up!  We don’t see him pout too much, but he definitely was here!

Later, we got some great shots at the swing!

It’s hard to stay away from the playground when the weather is this nice.  🙂

Especially when you can’t go anywhere else because you had to have your car towed because of engine trouble.  🙂

March 12, 2016

Today, Campbell got to wear his cute new Easter outfit to my cousin Katherine’s wedding. It was really nice, and Campbell looked adorable.  Unfortunately we didn’t get many pictures, but I  think the wedding photographer got one – hopefully we can get it from her.  Here’s a cute one with Aunt Julie, though.  🙂

March 9, 2016

Today, unfortunately, we had to come back home.  We spent a little time doing some sightseeing in LA – Mulholland Drive, Rodeo Drive, and the Getty Museum.  We didn’t get any pictures, but it was great!

Then, we flew home on a very late flight, which was delayed.  Thankfully, we got upgraded to economy comfort and had a middle seat in between us. Campbell stayed awake for the first hour or so and then slept on mom the rest of the way.  He was a real trooper waking up to get bags and get home, and then going right back to bed even though it was almost 2 a.m.

Here are a couple of plane pictures.

March 8, 2016

Today, we had to leave San Diego, unfortunately.  We got packed up this morning and made the drive to LA.  We stayed at the Loew’s Hollywood, which gave us just enough time for a walk around Hollywood before going to Pasadena to meet up with one of Mason’s law school friends and her family.

Here’s a picture of Campbell on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.  Dad thought it was hilarious to get a picture of him with Chuck Norris’s star.  :).

And, here’s a pic of the law school friends with kids.  Very cute.  :).

March 7, 2016

Today, we did some sightseeing at Cabrillo National Monument and Point Loma Lighthouse.  From here, you’re supposed to be able to see the whales migrating, but it was too windy and stormy today to see much.  But, on the upside, Campbell got to ride in this snazzy carrier with dad for the first time.  He didn’t seem to mind it, but it was really cold and very windy, so I this was the happiest he got.

Later, by the lighthouse, we got some nice people to get a pic of us. P1060305.JPG

It was a good thing too – here’s what our selfie attempt looked like.  :).  But you can see how windy it is!P1060303.JPG

Afterwards, mom took Campbell to the aquarium in La Jolla while dad went to play Torrey Pines.  Other than a it hailing for one hole and some pockets of rain and a lot of wind, the weather held up so he could finish his round.  Campbell seemed to love the aquarium!

Later, we finally got to eat at OB Noodle House, and it was really good.  We also met up with the sister of one of Mason’s college roommates, who was so nice and gave us lots of good suggestions for our trip.  Here’s a cute pic of us after dinner.

March 6, 2016

Today was a rainy morning, so we decided it was the perfect time to use Campbell’s passport for the first time.  Yay!  Campbell is now an international traveler!  We went across the border at San Ysidro into Mexico.  Thankfully, we walked because the car traffic at the border coming back would have taken hours.

Here’s Campbell loving his new stroller rain cover – he thought it was hilarious to pull on it:

2016-03-06 10.38.14.jpg

Then, here are some pictures of our trip.  What’s funny about the picture of dad at the border is that the younger guy used the dolly to carry the older man to the gate.  I tried to get a picture, but he had already stepped off.  Have to appreciate the ingenuity.

Afterwards, we tried to go to the beach, but it was really too cold for any of us to enjoy.  C is smiling in some of these pictures, but it took some doing.  The middle one is probably a more accurate reflection of how C felt about the beach:

So, we tried the pool after – hoping it would be warmer and more fun.  He definitely liked that better – at least for a few minutes.  But he was tired and wanted a nap after not too long.

After a nap, we tried again for OB Noodle House, but the wait was still too long.  So we tried to go to Bencotto Italian, but ended up at Monello, the sister restaurant, which was also amazing.  Afterwards, we walked a little around Little Italy, which is a really cute area.

March 5, 2016

Today, we woke up to something surprising.  We brought Campbell’s walker toy because we knew we’d need something to help entertain him in the room.  He was sitting down playing with it in front of the mirror in the hotel room, and the next thing we knew, he’d stood himself up on it and started pushing it forward.  Wow.  I have a feeling things will never be the same!  :).  I’m not totally surprised because he’s been trying to stand up every time we try to feed him without a high chair.  But isn’t it funny that he can pull up to a standing position, but he hasn’t figured out how to sit up (from laying down) on his own.  And that he’s standing on his own but still doesn’t crawl.  He’s definitely continuing to show us that he has a different agenda in mind.  :).

Here’s a shot of him after he stood up for the first time.

Next, we went to breakfast downtown at The Mission, which was really great.  Followed by a trip up to La Jolla, where dad stopped off to see about playing Torey Pines.  Dad didn’t get to play today, but we did get a cute picture of him with Campbell – and with a great view.

2016-03-05 12.31.17.jpg

Next, we went to the Children’s Pool in La Jolla.  You can get up close and personal with baby seals and their moms, who are sunning themselves.  It was super fun, though they were so lazy that I’m not at all sure that Campbell even realized that they were animals!  We also stuck his feet in the water, but it was cold, so he wasn’t so sure about that.

Then, we had lunch in La Jolla at PrepKitchen where we discovered that not only does Campbell love Chilequiles, he thinks it’s hilarious when you say it.  :).

Since he was really tired, we went back to the hotel for a nap and then ventured out to check out Hotel Del Coronado, which was beautiful and very historic.  Then, we ventured into town and tried to have dinner at OB Noodle House, but the line was too long so we went to Nico’s instead. It’s a dive, but Mason had the carne asada fries for dinner (healthy, I know), and they were delicious.  They’re apparently a local delicacy.  C was tired anyway, so it was good to have an early night.

March 4, 2016

Well, Campbell still seems to be on Central Time.  He was up today before 6am local time. But, that made for a good day to get out and do some sight-seeing.

First, we tried Azucar, which was absolutely amazing.  (I see another trip here in our future).  Then, we went to the San Diego Zoo, which was great.  We got a few cute pictures of Campbell, but in most of them he’s smiling at us instead of seeing the different zoo animals.

2016-03-04 11.53.46.jpg2016-03-04 12.34.41.jpg2016-03-04 13.26.35.jpg

Next we had the famous tacos at Las Cuatro Milpas.  C was so wiped out from the zoo that he slept entirely through lunch in his carseat.

Later, after C’s nap (still no sleeping in the stroller), Campbell got to go swimming for the first time since last summer.  He still loves it!

Finally, we checked out the pizza at Bronx Pizza.  We were all too tired for a sit down meal.  But Campbell did get to try his first gelato at Pappalecco.  He definitely likes chocolate – or at least chocolate mint.

March 3, 2016

Today was a big day for Campbell.  He got to go on his first plane ride all the way to LAX – and then on to San Diego in the car.

We got him up super early for a 5:50 a.m. flight.  He did great on the plane and even took a nap with mom.  He made friends with another nearby baby and did a lot of “talking,” but thankfully not much crying.

Here’s a shot of Campbell waiting for dad to pick us up in the rental car.

And, here are a couple of Campbell by President Nixon’s helicopter.  We visited his presidential museum and library (even though part of it was closed for renovation) on the way to San Diego.

2016-03-03 11.41.49.jpg2016-03-03 11.42.26.jpg

We are also learning that Campbell doesn’t like to sleep in his stroller, unfortunately, but he did get a something of a nap on the drive to San Diego.  But between being up at 4:30 and only napping for a little while in the car, he definitely needed a nap.  Unfortunately, he didn’t want to nap in the pack ‘n play at the hotel (Loew’s Coronado) either.  Here’s a shot after dad finally got him to close his eyes for at least a few minutes in the room.  Hopefully, he’ll sleep better when we try it tonight.

2016-03-03 17.15.09.jpg

Also, today Campbell tried whole milk for the first time.  Thankfully he didn’t even seem to notice the difference.  Yay!  That makes things much easier going forward!
